Hello Quest families!!
Blue Folders - Students all should have a blue folder that stays in their backpacks. We use these folders to send home any important information/forms.
Math - We have started the second part of our unit by learning about surface area. Students have been building, naming, and finding the surface area of 3-D shapes. There is a lot of vocabulary in this unit, so we have been writing definitions in our notebooks. We got our first quizzes back and made revisions.
Language Arts - We created Word Art for the biographies we are reading. Students chose main ideas and then weighted them by which ones were most important to the central idea of their book. We learned vocabulary words from our Flocabulary program, and worked with contractions and soft g for spelling. Students are starting to differentiate their learning. Some are working out of workbooks, while others are working on the computer. Some are doubling up on spelling, while others are working on independent reading goals.
Science - We learned about food webs and the demise of the dinosaurs this week. Today we started our project based learning. Students were able to choose an ecosystem somewhere in the world. They will research it, and create a project to show their understanding. Project options range from working with outdoors materials to Minecraft for Education.
Social Studies - We are learning about the 3 branches of government. We played a fun game where students got to take on the role of being president and working with their cabinets. For Geography, we learned about latitude and longitude lines and quizzed ourselves on the locations of continents and oceans.
Field Trip- Our field trip has been rescheduled for next Tuesday, October 4th. We will be going to Little River State Park. There, we will learn about the environment with Brian Aust, a local ecologist. We are looking forward to a beautiful day.
