Hello Quest families!!
Fall Conferences - Our Fall conferences will be held in November and will take place with your student’s homeroom teacher. Both in-person and virtual options will be available. Mr. Taylor’s conferences took place this past week.
Math - This week we wrapped up Unit 2, Introducing Ratios. On Monday, we had a conversation about affordable housing in Waterbury and solved problems comparing the ratio of affordable housing to market rate housing. Students took a quiz on Wednesday and made quiz corrections on Thursday. We will continue exploring ratios in Unit 3, Unit Rates and Percentages. Here is some information about Unit 3.
Language Arts - Representatives from Choose Your Own Adventure books came to visit. They gave us some ideas on how to create choices in our stories that are interesting for the reader. They also gave each student a book, sticker, and cool pencil. Thanks to Jen Hill for facilitating that opportunity!
We continue to work on our narrative writing. We also have spelling tests each week. Lately, we have been focusing on root words such as photo- and bio-, geo- and cycl-. We did an activity about shades of meaning on Thursday to help us with word choice in our writing.
Science - This week, we began modeling projects. Students are creating dioramas that show important parts of our local ecosystem. Students have included producers, consumers, and other biotic and abiotic factors. We also explored Next week we will begin our final project for this unit.
Social Studies - After creating posters for the beginning phrases of the US Constitution (Preamble), we started to learn more about the 3 branches of government. This week, we did a deep dive about the powers each branch has and started a project about the branches. The geography skill we focused on was latitude and longitude.
Field Trip - We had fun on our field trip to the Vermont State House last week. Our tour guide at the State House was a retired history teacher and principal and gave us a great tour. The students loved exploring the Vermont History Museum and learning about how maps of Vermont have changed throughout the years. We also enjoyed lunch and recess on the State House lawn.
