Hello Quest families!!


Fall FuN DaY - On Monday, October 31st, Team Quest will be having a Fall celebration.  We will be carving pumpkins, having a Talent Show, and watching a Halloween movie.  We are seeking some donations for our fun day including:  

  • 12 pumpkins

  • 12 pumpkin carving kits 

  • cider/juice

  • microwavable popcorn

Math - Last week, we finished our first math unit on area and surface area.  Students took a quiz and created a slideshow to show what they’ve learned.  We started our new math unit this week, Introducing Ratios.  Here is a link to learn more about the mathematics in this unit.



Language Arts - This week we will finish our first reading unit.  Students will finish their biographies and will finish their final slideshow project.  Students have done very well with this unit.  We have learned a lot not just about our books, but about the history of the various time periods.  This Wednesday, students who read I Got This will be able to go on a virtual field trip with Laurie Hernandez, the author of this book!  We are excited for this event.  Next week we will start our narrative unit.  We will meet the publishers of Choose Your Own Adventure books, and we will be writing our own adventures!  


Science - We are finishing our ecosystem unit.  Students continue to work on their projects to show information about different biomes throughout the world.  Next week students in Science will start their first social studies unit.


Social Studies - In our final week of the first unit of Social Studies, we focused on the amendments to the constitution.  This included learning about the Bill of Rights as well as other amendments.  We finished our mini-projects on the 3 Branches of Government and played a game in which students had to defend their rights.  Our Geography focus was on direction (north, south, east and west) and reading physical maps.


Field Trip - On November 2nd, we will be taking our second field trip of the year to the Vermont State House in Montpelier.  We will leave school around 9:00 and return by 1:30.  Students will be getting a tour of the State House, visiting the Vermont History Museum, and doing a hands-on activity at the museum.  If you are interested in chaperoning and have been cleared by the school district, please reach out to Mr. Taylor.

What is a ratio?  Can you give me an example?

  Welcome back Quest families!! We had a great start to our 6th grade school year.  Our goals were to connect with classmates, set expectations, and have fun and we did all of the above.  Last Thursday and Friday, we worked on math and LA activities.  This week we will start all of our core classes.  Students will have math and language arts in the morning, and after lunch will have science or social studies.  If they are in science, they will have Mrs. Williams for 6 weeks and then switch to social studies with Mr. Taylor.  If they are in social studies, they will have Mr. Taylor for 6 weeks and then switch to science with Mrs. Williams. School Supplies - In an effort to create more space in backpacks, students are only asked to keep the following items in their backpacks:  pencils, headphones, a reading book, and a blue home folder that we gave them.  All other notebooks and folders can be kept in the classroom.   2/14/23 Hello Quest families!! ACTION NEEDED:  Boston Field Trip - On Thursday, May 18th, we will be taking a field trip to Boston for the day.  In the past, this has been a 6th grade tradition at CBMS.  We often rely on volunteers to chaperone this trip and are hoping Quest families will consider joining us in May.  If you would like to volunteer, please check out the HUUSD website to review the background check process.  Please contact Mrs. Williams / Mr. Taylor as well, so we can get a count of how many folks are interested in volunteering.   11/11/22 Hello Quest families!! Fall Conferences - Our Fall conferences will be held in November and will take place with your student’s homeroom teacher.  Both in-person and virtual options will be available.  Mr. Taylor’s conferences took place this past week.   Mrs. Williams's sign up link Math - This week we wrapped up Unit 2, Introducing Ratios .  On Monday, we had a conversation about affordable housing in Waterbury and solved problems comparing the ratio of affordable housing to market rate housing.  Students took a quiz on Wednesday and made quiz corrections on Thursday.  We will continue exploring ratios in Unit 3, Unit Rates and Percentages .  Here is some information about Unit 3 .   Language Arts - Representatives from Choose Your Own Adventure books came to visit.  They gave us some ideas on how to create choices in our stories that are interesting for the reader.  They also gave each student a book, sticker...
