Hello Quest families!!


Fall Conferences - Our Fall conferences will be held in November and will take place with your student’s homeroom teacher.  Both in-person and virtual options will be available.

Fall FuN DaY - On Monday, October 31st, Team Quest will be having a Fall celebration.  We will be carving pumpkins, having a Talent Show, and watching a Halloween movie.  We have received many donations!

Math - We continue to explore ratios in Math class.  Students are learning about equivalent ratios and are also learning how to compare ratios.  We timed ourselves running and walking 10 meters, so we could calculate our speed (meters per second).  When problem solving with ratios, students use tables, double number lines, and visuals to help.  We did a short quiz last week.



Language Arts - We have begun our first writing unit of the year.  Students are working on narrative writing.  We have begun two different stories, plus a Choose Your Own Adventure.  Did you know that the headquarters for Choose Your Own Adventure Books is in Waitsfield, Vermont?  And that the headquarters are moving to the Cabot Plaza?  Two of their representatives are going to be visiting us next Thursday.  We will learn more about the process of creating these books, and will be able to ask questions for developing our own stories.  Your student may have a permission form for these representatives to take photos.  Please turn that in if it is okay for their photo to be used.

  


Science - Our second group finished their local food chains.  Last week we went outside and took photos of insects and plants.  We then created food chains based on these plants and insects.  Today, we learned what can go wrong in a food chain.  


Social Studies - We started our unit with our new group last week.  Students explored their atlases, read about the Constitution, and reflected on current events.  We also completed a project where students had to create a club and create a constitution for that club.  Our next step is to learn more about what the Constitution says and how it affects our lives.


Field Trip - On November 2nd, we will be taking our second field trip of the year to the Vermont State House in Montpelier.  We will leave school around 9:00 and return by 1:30.  Students will be getting a tour of the State House, visiting the Vermont History Museum, and doing a hands-on activity at the museum.  If you are interested in chaperoning and have been cleared by the school district, please reach out to Mr. Taylor.

  Welcome back Quest families!! We had a great start to our 6th grade school year.  Our goals were to connect with classmates, set expectations, and have fun and we did all of the above.  Last Thursday and Friday, we worked on math and LA activities.  This week we will start all of our core classes.  Students will have math and language arts in the morning, and after lunch will have science or social studies.  If they are in science, they will have Mrs. Williams for 6 weeks and then switch to social studies with Mr. Taylor.  If they are in social studies, they will have Mr. Taylor for 6 weeks and then switch to science with Mrs. Williams.   2/14/23 Hello Quest families!! ACTION NEEDED:  Boston Field Trip - On Thursday, May 18th, we will be taking a field trip to Boston for the day.  In the past, this has been a 6th grade tradition at CBMS.  We often rely on volunteers to chaperone this trip and are hoping Quest families will consider joining us in May.  If you would like to volunteer, please check out the HUUSD website to review the background check process.  Please contact Mrs. Williams / Mr. Taylor as well, so we can get a count of how many folks are interested in volunteering. SEL (Social Emotional Learning) - We have been working with Quest students on ways to interact with each other and adults in appropriate and respectful ways.  One of our focuses has been tone of voice.  We practiced making statements using different tones of voices and discussed how our tone of voice can impact the people we are speaking to.  We have also been teaching students about active listeni...

  11/11/22 Hello Quest families!! Fall Conferences - Our Fall conferences will be held in November and will take place with your student’s homeroom teacher.  Both in-person and virtual options will be available.  Mr. Taylor’s conferences took place this past week.   Mrs. Williams's sign up link Math - This week we wrapped up Unit 2, Introducing Ratios .  On Monday, we had a conversation about affordable housing in Waterbury and solved problems comparing the ratio of affordable housing to market rate housing.  Students took a quiz on Wednesday and made quiz corrections on Thursday.  We will continue exploring ratios in Unit 3, Unit Rates and Percentages .  Here is some information about Unit 3 .   Language Arts - Representatives from Choose Your Own Adventure books came to visit.  They gave us some ideas on how to create choices in our stories that are interesting for the reader.  They also gave each student a book, sticker...
