Hello Quest families!!
Spring Conferences - You can sign up for spring conferences with your student’s homeroom teacher using this link. Please reach out with any questions.
ACTION NEEDED: Boston Field Trip - On Thursday, May 18th, we will be taking a field trip to Boston for the day. In the past, this has been a 6th grade tradition at CBMS. We often rely on volunteers to chaperone this trip and are hoping Quest families will consider joining us in May. If you would like to volunteer, please check out the HUUSD website to review the background check process. Please contact Mrs. Williams/Mr. Taylor as well, so we can get a count of how many folks are interested in volunteering.
Chromebook Reminder - Students should be leaving these devices at school. They should not be bringing them home unless a plan has been made with teachers and guardians. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Math - We wrapped up our decimal unit before break and have started our new unit ‘Expressions & Equations’. This unit starts with learning how to write and solve equations with variables. We started by looking at see-saw diagrams to learn about how equations have to be balanced. Here is some more information about this unit.
Language Arts - We finished our unit of the book The Benefits of Being an Octopus. Now, we are starting a debate unit. Students have chosen debate topics. These topics include: Should cellphones be allowed in classes? Should teachers use GoGuardian to monitor Chromebook use? Should zoos be allowed? Should we test on animals? Do video games cause negative behavior in children?
After the debates, we will begin our argument writing unit. Students will be able to choose their topic.
Science - We are starting our last science unit of the year. This unit will be about fossils, the fossil record, and the geologic timeline. If you have any fossils at home, send them in with your student to share!
Social Studies - Our final Social Studies unit of the year is Ancient Civilizations. We started this unit with an exploration of Mesopotamia. We will continue to study Mesopotamia to help us understand important aspects of a civilization. Students will eventually be choosing an ancient civilization to learn more about for their final project.
